We were over the moon here at Leicester South Foodbank recently when we took delivery of our lovely new Ford Transit van, a vehicle which will support the work of the organisation and help our team massively as we go about our daily operations.
The van was purchased with the help of generous grants from both Asda and Leicestershire County Council and their SHIRE Community Grants scheme.
We’re so grateful for this support as the van is already making a huge difference to the work we do, enabling us to reach more people and carry out the important work of the foodbank even more efficiently.
Check out the video below from previous foodbank operations manager Anna Marriott, which illustrates the challenges we faced when using our own private vehicles to do this work.
New operations manager at Leicester South Foodbank, Bruce Harrison, welcomed the addition of the van: “It’s hard to overestimate the importance of the grants from Asda and Leicestershire County Council – and the van that they have allowed us to purchase – to the foodbank and our ability to carry out our important work.
“In terms of our overall efficiency, the supplies we can collect and distribute, and the number of people in need that we can reach, the van supports us in doing more and ultimately it is the community in the South Leicester area that will benefit from this.”
Of course, with our foodbank logos adorning it, what the van also means is we’re far easier to spot when we’re out and about now, so if you spot us then feel free to give us a smile and a wave!
