Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

Van driver

So that we can respond to our rapidly expanding service, we are looking for people who can spare a couple of hours a week, to drive our vans, and pick up donations from our collection points and deliver emergency food parcels to our partners around the Leicester and Leicestershire area. You’ll play an important role in promptly transporting food from collection points to the warehouse for sorting, and finally onto the local food bank, which will help to make a real difference in your community. A confident and safe driver, you’ll enjoy being part of a team and be physically strong so that you can lift and load crates of food. Your flexible and committed approach will help to maximise donations and improve the efficiency of the food bank. Will need to had a drivers licences for 2 years.

Warehouse volunteer

We need help to weigh, sort and store donated food before it’s made into parcels for clients to collect. You could help in this vital work to ensure we have the right food available at all times. Acting as the link between food donations coming in and reaching those in crisis, you’ll support the smooth running of your local food bank. You’ll be part of a team packing food and additional items in the warehouse. You’ll be organised and have an eye for detail this includes packing from a list weighting the parcel really to go the client. This is a physical role as you’ll be on your feet a lot and you must be comfortable with some heavy lifting and maintaining a clean and safe warehouse.

Community Campaigner Volunteer

Our vision is for a UK without the need for food banks. As a Community Campaigner volunteer, you will actively participate in campaigning for change alongside the local community and those who work, volunteer, and visit the food bank. These campaigns, both local and national, will bring together and unite the local community to effect change, influence decision makers and make a difference for the people we support. In this vital role, you will help us raise the profile of the food bank and highlight the everyday challenges that people visiting the food bank are facing.

Emergency food parcel packer

Helping at a foodbank centre

Meet clients and give out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and signpost to further support.

As the welcoming face of the food bank you’ll be sociable, enjoy meeting people and able to offer friendly and caring support to those in crisis. You’ll receive and check food vouchers, prepare food parcels and make refreshments for the people who visit the food bank. You’ll provide a listening ear and support people in accessing other services with compassion and dignity. Fundraiser volunteer

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic person who enjoys meeting people and is a good organiser. You will be passionate about wanting to help people get the best from their lives and lifting people out of poverty. You will be a good communicator who can enthuse others and engage people from diverse backgrounds. You will manage and organise community fundraising activities, while also providing support to volunteers and staff members at larger fundraising events. You will actively promote Leicester South Foodbank. You will be confident to sustain and grow fundraising income. You will need to be computer literate and capable to create documents and spreadsheets and work alongside our IT team  using various social media sources. As a volunteer we would need you to be available some Saturdays as well as a few hours in the week. If you want to support your community and make a difference to vulnerable peoples lives we would love to meet you.

Web editor

Our local website needs constant attention. Could your digital skills help communicate our message to a local and global audience? You will need to know a little about websites and ideally have experience of using WordPress (though training and support is available).
