HSBC and Unite union make £5000 donation

13th August 2019

We have been working with HSBC Telephone Banking teams from De Montfort Street Leicester, for about 6 months. They have sent teams of volunteers to help at Leicester South Foodbank, packing boxes and sorting food donations. During this time we received a call from Unite union who informed us their members were enjoying volunteering but wanted to do more. They asked what would make a substantial difference to the sustainability and  continuation of LSFB, as their members wanted to ensure the good work and support for vulnerable people in Leicester continued.

We need about £50,000 a year to operate and knew that any contribution would make a difference, but were completely blown away when we were informed that they would be donating £5000. This generous donation has given us a boost to now find donors who are willing to match fund, as having such a prestigious company donate a substantial amount gives others confidence to do the same.

But it didn’t stop there! When Geoff Adams (Trustee) and Bruce Harrison (Operational Manager) went to collect the cheque, they were also shown the collection that staff had made. £160 plus over half a ton of food:

“We struggled to fit it all in the van’ said Geoff, ‘they have not only collected food, but have checked our web site and targeted the items we most needed.”

Leicester South Foodbank are determined to serve our community for as long as they need us and we are so grateful that this financial gift will go a long way to helping us achieve this.
