Advice and support

22nd March 2020

During this time we are working alongside other agencies to give you as much support as possible. We are managing to keep the majority of our hubs open, so please continue to check our website for the locations. We are also trying to set up some more hubs with the community flats and children’s centres, to try and make you as safe as possible when you come to collect your emergency vouchers, by having fewer people come to each centre. Please could you queue outside patiently and a member of staff will check your voucher and let two people in at a time. We will move you through the system as quickly as possible so as to ensure you do not have to wait around to long.

To this end when you visit our us or one of the hubs, you will be given an emergency box of supplies. We can not offer at this time fresh food but we will be supplying the community flat and community fridge with our allocation from our suppliers.

You will not be able to get a voucher from Oadby & Wigston council customer services during this period of isolation, so we are busy setting our referrers up electronically to issue you a voucher code. You must have this code or a red voucher and some form of ID, before you visit us or one of our hubs, otherwise we are unable to give you any emergency parcels. You can email us on [email protected] please include a contact number and we will try to contact you within 24 hours. Please bear in mind that we are at full stretch and so it may take a little longer.

At this time of unprecedented demand for support, we are having to prioritise who we can support. Please consider carefully if you can manage some other way rather than using the food bank as your first port of call.

Please check local council & government websites for information on other souses of support and we will try to keep up to date with where you can get help from.

Beacon care have launched a telephone line (01858 456915) for those isolated and lonely  and will collect shopping for those who cannot get out – both offered as a free service

We would also like to add that we are overwhelmed with the support people have offered to us and seeing our community coming together to support each other.

Thank you all

From all staff and volunteers at Leicester South Food Bank
