From the Foodbank to the Pantry: a step forward
The Community Pantry introduces the Mobile Pantry, South Wigston, Thursdays 10:30am -1pm
Foodbanks are a fantastic and necessary safety net for families in crisis. But, when there are long-term financial problems crippling families’ budgets, a one-off food parcel isn’t going to help. This is where The Community Pantry steps in.
The Community Pantry is a subsidised membership-only supermarket. A Pantry member pays £5 and gets £25 worth of shopping. They can choose this themselves, selecting the items much like you would in a supermarket.
Community Pantry membership is given to eligible people for an initial period. While someone is a Pantry member, they are encouraged to engage with additional support services, such as Helping Hands Advice Centre, Christians Against Poverty or an Adult Education provider.
“It helped me massively through a hard time and a time of need. I’ve been helped by many professionals within the Community Centre and always have been pointed in the right direction by the lead of the Pantry. I can’t thank everyone enough for all the support.”
PANTRY MEMBER
The Community Pantry is more than a subsidised food service: it is an opportunity for members to tackle the root causes of their financial struggles, with the support and guidance of the team.
