Teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba in practice

9th March 2020

We have been privileged recently, to be asked to speak at Shree Ram Mandir, about Leicester South Food Bank. We spoke to an audience of about 300 people who were there to take part in Bhajans (Religious Songs etc). People listened as we explained the work we we do in supporting vulnerable and marginalised people in Leicester.

At these functions there are singers who sing Bhajans (religious hymns) about Shirdi Sai Baba and promote the teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba. As part of his teachings is feeding the hungry, the group decided from this year, they would be looking to start helping other charities to achieve this aim. During this event they encouraged participants to donate food and at the end of the event they had collected nearly half a ton of food. This was an amazing act of generosity and kindness and will go a long way to ensure the people of Leicester and Leicestershire can have some respite from food poverty.

Not only did we receive food donations, but several people signed up for standing orders so that we could meet some of the costs involved in collecting, sorting and distributing the food.

We are so grateful to this group and others like it, and it shows the strength and cohesion we have in Leicester, to see people from all cultures, faiths and diverse backgrounds, receive help and support to make our  community stronger .

Thank you all
