A big shout out to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Leicester

18th June 2020

I have always loved living in Leicester because of the diversity of cultures. Since becoming the Operational Manager for LSFB my love for this city has increased. I have met so many wonderful people, learnt about how different faiths and those of no faith, have come together to make their community better. We read such negative press about how communities are failing and crime is on the increase. It’s true there are some terrible things happening, but what is coming across loud and clear is that the vast majority of people want to help, support and care for their neighbours. It doesn’t matter what colour your skin, your gender, who you’d rather be within a relationship, disabilities, age, ethnicity whatever we are all pulling together to make sure we look after each other. We had a heartbreaking email from a young mum, who when we rang her burst into tears. She thought she was limited to how much food she could have so pleaded with us to just give food for her kids and she would go without. When our call centre operative said not only would we be giving her food, but baby food, nappies, wipes, personal hygiene products, chocolate, washing up liquid and washing powder she was overwhelmed. We can only do this because of your generosity. You are seeing a need and responding. You are not just putting one or two items in the collection baskets, you are coming to the King Centre with trolley loads of items. We have asked you to check our website before you shop https://leicestersouth.foodbank.org.uk/give-he…/donate-food/ you have, which is building up our stocks to ensure we can continue to pack 5 days a week and distribute over 200 emergency boxes a week on average. All at LSFB thank you. You are giving hope to families and showing that people in your communities matter.

A big shout out to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Leicester who took the time to visit our website and deliver this amazing donation yesterday.
